Julie LaVarnway was raised in Irving, TX where she attended John R. Good Elementary, Stephen F. Austin Jr. High and graduated from Irving High School. She attended University of Dallas as a biology major for 2 years and it was during this time that she worked for the YMCA as a summer camp and after school camp counselor.
She then took a couple of years off from higher education and worked full-time with an Irving day care, where she managed the pre-school and kindergarten children.
She attended college at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma where she majored in Environmental and Health Science. She worked for 10 years with the City of Dallas as a health inspector.
She met Dr. Lavender during her volunteer work with a Kaufman county low-cost spay/neuter clinic where Dr. Lavender performed spay/neuter surgeries. When Metro Paws opened its doors, a gracious invitation was offered to join the Metro Paws staff as a part-timer. How could she say no? She eventually became a full time employee in September 2007.
She volunteers with Animal Allies of Texas, a non-profit animal rescue group and shares her home with numerous permanent and foster dogs and cats.
